Kritter REVIEW
A wave-based action game that sees you defending a ship against a swarm of enemies, Kritter takes a fairly simple, but exhilarating premise, and adds a ton of style to it. In this top-down roguelike action game, you play as a cutesy little robot stuck on a hostile planet, defending your crashed ship for as long as possible. The last-ditch effort may be, overall, futile, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t fun to destroy wave upon wave of slimes, bugs, and monsters along the way.

The core loop is very satisfying, with upgrades and different weapon builds adding plenty of variety as you fight the hordes. Like many good roguelikes, there are temporary run-dependent upgrades which you choose for your character, but between runs, you can also upgrade your ship, adding shields, turrets, and other permanent upgrades that help you progress further inch by inch.
The world of Kritter is surprisingly charming, too. There’s a nice, consistent visual style that adds plenty of charm, but there’s also the constant presence of your “companion” character, the Ai of the ship that you’re guarding. While it might be a little too snarky and ever-ready with a quip for some, it does add plenty of personality. Overall, Kritter is a very solid roguelike with a nice deal of build variety to work with, and the option for up to four-player co-op can make it the perfect game to chill with friends.
